Essence of Life // An all-media exhibition featuring art in celebration of Tu b’Shevat
January 8 – February 9, 2017
Tu B’Shevat, the 15th of Shevat on the Jewish calendar—celebrated this year on Saturday, February 11, 2017—marks the beginning of a “new year” for trees. This is the season in which the earliest-blooming trees in the Land of Israel emerge from their winter sleep and begin a new fruit-bearing cycle. The holiday is marked by eating fruit, particularly grapes, figs, pomegranates, olives and dates. It is also a day in celebration of the idea that “man is a tree of the field,” and reflects on the lessons we can derive from our botanical analogue. Jewish and non-Jewish artists of all media are included, showing artwork reflecting on growth, renewal and nature.
